The "Managed By SNMP" Logo Charter

ARTICLE 1 - INTRODUCTION
The "Managed by SNMP" logo is intended for product advertising which complies with this charter.
In the following articles, the "Managed by SNMP" logo shall be called the logo, this charter shall be called the charter, the product complying with this Charter shall be called the product.

ARTICLE 2 - REFERENCE TO THE CHARTER
Any product using the logo will refer to this charter expressly in WWW servers using a hypertext link to a copy of the charter or implied therein if used on any other media.

ARTICLE 3 - AUTHOR
The "Managed by SNMP" logo was designed by ACTANE which is the author of the logo and this charter. The logo and the charter may not be modified without express permission from ACTANE.

ARTICLE 4 - PERMISSION OF USE
ACTANE grants permission to use the logo without any fee to any company for their products complying in good faith with this charter.

ARTICLE 5 - DISCLAIM OF LIABILITY
As the logo is used "in good faith", the logo and the charter are provided "AS-IS" with no warranty express or implied. ACTANE shall not be liable for any use of the logo and the charter by any company.

ARTICLE 6 - COMPLIANCE AUTHORITY
There is no authority to decide if a product complies with the charter. It is the responsibility of the company using the logo to decide, in good faith, whether or not their products comply with the present charter. ACTANE will not be liable for any misuse of the logo for any product of any company and worldwide.

ARTICLE 7.1 - COMPLIANCE
A product complies with the charter if and only if it is entirely manageable using the SNMP protocol. That is all management tasks must be doable using any standard SNMP manager complying with the SNMP protocol.

ARTICLE 7.2 - COEXISTENCE WITH OTHER MANAGEMENT MEANS
The product can be manageable using other protocols or means but all management tasks that can be done with those other means must be doable via SNMP.

ARTICLE 7.3 - HARDWARE SET UP
Management tasks that require hardware intervention may be done without using SNMP, e.g. installing a new board in the device or setup need not be doable with SNMP.

ARTICLE 7.4 - INTEGRATION WITH OTHER HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE
It is not necessary that hardware or software used in conjunction with the product comply with the charter, e.g. the operating system need not be manageable with SNMP.

ARTICLE 7.2 - SECURITY CONSIDERATIONS
Version 2 of the SNMP protocol will allow highly secure management using authentication, privacy and access control to the MIB depending on party rights.
It is not necessary to use the version 2 of SNMP to use the logo, any agent that complies with version 1 of SNMP can use the logo. However any agent complying with version 2 of the protocol can use the logo.
